IGS TRICHY CHAPTER

IGS Trichy chapter was inaugurated on 14th February 2014, with an objective to provide common forum for academicians, research workers, designers, construction engineers, equipment manufacturers and others interested in geotechnical activities in promoting cooperation among them for advancement and dissemination of knowledge in Geotechnical Engineering and allied fields and their practical application. The chapter has organized many workshops, short  term courses and conferences in a short duration of time. Now the Indian Geotechnical Society has entrusted  IGS Trichy chapter for conducting the 6th Indian Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference (6IYGEC). The organizing committee of the 6IYGEC works towards successful conduct of the conference.

NIT TRICHY

The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, is a deemed university under the control of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It was established in the year 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of manpower in technology for the country. It is situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery. The Institution offers Under Graduate Courses in ten branches and Post Graduate Courses in twenty one disciplines of Science, Engineering & Technology besides MS, Ph.D. in all the departments.

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI


The historical city of Tiruchirappalli, popularly known as Tiruchi or Trichy, situated on the banks of the river Cauvery. Trichy is the fourth largest city in Tamil Nadu. Trichy has several beautiful temples, churches and a large number of scenic spots. The most famous land mark of this bustling town is the RockfortTemple, a spectacular monument perched on a massive rocky out crop which rises abruptly from the plain to tower over the old city. It is reached by the flight of steep steps cut into the rock and from its summit you get a fantastic view of the town plus its other main landmark, Sri Ranganatha Swami Temple ( Srirangam). Shrouded in a haze of coconut palms away to the north, Sri Ranganatha Swami temple is one of the largest and most interesting temple complexes in India, built on an island in the middle of Cauvery river and covering a staggering 2.5 square kilo meters. There is also another huge temple complex near by the Jambukeshwara Temple. 

The city is an important educational centre in the state of Tamil Nadu, and houses nationally recognized institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management (IIMT), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and National Institute of Technology (NITT).
